What should we focus on next?

MindMup is community driven, so we’ll work on what our users want the most. For best results, please:
- Formulate ideas as work objectives (explain why, not just what/how). For example, ‘collaborate with friends remotely’ is much better than asking for ‘google realtime v2.0 integration’
- Do not submit stuff anonymously. We want to discuss your proposal with you if it gets votes, and anonymous submissions don’t allow us to do that. Ideas submitted anonymously will most likely be closed.

  1. Ability to add information to the connector, not just the node.

Sometimes, you need to be able to describe the relationship between nodes, not just place information in the node. Please add the ability to put an expandable description to the connector, and enable different line types, such as dotted lines, double lines, etc.

  2. I would like to have the posibility of starting more "rootparents" in the same map

When in planing mode of a structure, I often get the ideas in an unsorted way. To keep them, it would be great to have the possibility to put them on the map immediately including som child nodes and afterward just have to connect them to the main structure in an reasonably way.

  4. Having the possibility to add detached blocks

Adding blocks not connected to the main idea but floating anywhere the users want to put in on the screen. By extension it would be interesting to create more that one tree on one page.

  5. add stock icons

add stock icons similar to what XMIND has. it's pretty useful to have icons such as 1,2,3,4 to identify priorities. Smileys and flags are also useful indicators. The workaround now is to upload the images as the icons.

  6. link to another mind map

It would be really nice if we could link a node in mind map to another mind map with a relative path . eg if we have many mind maps in a folder ..

    Transport
    > Air
    >plane
    >Land
    >Car=>Link to=> "car.mup"
    >Bus
    >Van
    >Water
    >Ship
    >Boat

Eg in above example if we could click on car and go a mindmap called car.mup somewhere in the folder . it would be a clean ,navigable and much more maintainable map. esp we are have huge maps.

Note : map files could be accessed using relative paths eg : ~/folder/folder/car.mup

  7. Improved readability: Children automatic colors and different sizes

In order to make the Mind maps more readable I would recommend to add automatic colors to every new node departing from the central topic.
This is currently doable manually but it requires extra time (especially on big maps), while adding automatic random colors to any new "parent node" and respective children would make jotting new ideas faster and more understandable at a glance.
On a similar note I would also suggest to increase the size of the central node and the parent nodes. The original mind map theory states in fact that it's important to add some visual clues…

  8. Facilitate multiple parent nodes

When two ideas converge to form a new point that needs both parents. This is different to just connecting two arbitrary nodes together. It might require a reorganization of the map layout to keep it looking neat.

  9. Ability to dill down on a node to create a sub-mindmap

When creating mind maps they can become very large with lots of children nodes linking ideas. To help this problem it is really useful to dill down on a child node to create a sub-mindmap, in the sub-mindmap the child become the parent node in the centre, and all its child nodes are shown. This means you can create one large mind map and dill down onto set topics or area you are working on. A software called "xmind" does this but it doesn't link to google drive.

Keep up the good work guys :)

  10. Linking Google Drive files to nodes

It would be great to be able to link nodes with specific files on GDrive. This would dramatically improve collaboration on ideas with extensive information background and/or requesting collaborative document creation.

I could create a link to a specific shared document on my Drive and collaborators could open and read/edit it. I understand it is a matter of rights and IDs but it'd be a great leap forward.

Press [Ctrl] key and [Enter] key simultaneously

  12. Allow exporting to more formats (specifically PDF, and a higher quality JPEG).

The file sizes of the images and PDFs can be disregarded, in my opinion, since we would really like to see our maps on our Android phones and iphones as images exported from MindMup, and currently, the quality of the JPEGs are quite unreadable for large mindmaps, defeating the purpose of making the mindmap..

Probably the Devs can take a look at this feature?

  14. It would be great to have captions for the connect lines.

There are some situiations when the connection between nodes are not quite clear. It would be great to have apportunity to clearify it by the caption.

  15. move the bubble somewhere else and it doesn't pop back

I'm used to mind manager when you move your ideas somewhere and it stays there, in mindmup it pops back which is quite annoying to me.

  16. Search within own mind map

Why: to find nodes within large mind maps. I have created mind maps with over 1000 nodes and the easiest way to navigate to the desired node is by searching.

  19. I would like it had icon support in the node. This would make easy mark ideas as done, important, etc.

I guess that 5 or 6 good icons would be good. For me the important ones would be the "completed icon" (maybe a green V), the attention (maybe an yellow exclamation), an incompleted or impossible idea (some red icon, maybe a X or perhaps just a red circle), original idea (a lamp, maybe).

  20. Automatic colors of the children nodes

I would like to colorize the children nodes according to their parent, unless I specify the colo for the node myself. The color could fade into transparent, or white by some value in every level from parent. Example:

Node1 - red (specified by me)
Node1.1 - lighter red (not specified)
Node1.1.1 - more lighter red (not specified)
    Node1.2 - green (specified)
Node1.2.1 - lighter green (not specified)
    Node1.2.2 - brown (specified)
    etc..

the idea came up from bubbl.us but without color transition
