I would like it had icon support in the node. This would make easy mark ideas as done, important, etc.
I guess that 5 or 6 good icons would be good. For me the important ones would be the "completed icon" (maybe a green V), the attention (maybe an yellow exclamation), an incompleted or impossible idea (some red icon, maybe a X or perhaps just a red circle), original idea (a lamp, maybe).
you can now add images to nodes. we don’t have a standard icon library, but you can just drag and drop any image into a node and it will become an icon. http://blog.mindmup.com/p/images-and-icons-in-nodes.html

A particular case of https://mindmup.uservoice.com/forums/200447-what-should-we-focus-on-next-/suggestions/3800021-adding-pictures-to-nodes. Should be merged into that one.

Custom icons would be good option too. Just any picture you know. Could be used an attach from photobucket or own google drive folder.

I hope this is OK for me to say: MindJet and XMind are there for a while now and that concept of icons is widely used by professionals. XMind has IMO ugly ones, but there are many free icons around that can be used.
Also, if you want to be really disruptive - the import from these two very popular formats should support their icon structure in order to get their users. But then .... :) you'll make news, MindMup Team!!

I agree with Fábio. I like to keep different categories and levels grouped by color and don't use the progress option because it changes my colors.
Ideally:
1) Implement a layered approach to the progress colors. Allow me to toggle them off and on -- when off, my colors should revert back to the base colors I picked.
2) Separate icons from progress. A couple examples:

To me, it would be very nice if icons were not connected to status. I tend to use icons as tags that could mean almost anything. Sometimes I use icons to mark different parts of the map that are related to each other. Ideally it would be very nice if it was possible to add multiple icons to the same node.
Also, I would really appreciate a set of generic icons or the possibility to add my own icons. Thanks for your great work.

So if we made the progress extension configurable so that the status doesn't need to change the color, but sets an icon, will that enable you to do what you want? Eg create a status of "important" with an icon and no background color...
The reason why I'm asking is that we could potentially allow people to just attach pictures to nodes, but this opens a lot of possible issues with automatic layout etc. if you are talking about using icons to signal status of a node, then something like progress but configurable makes more sense to me

I gave an example of statuses, but the icons can mean another things, like categories or priorities, for example. So, it would be interesting if the icon were independent of the progress color. (for example, gray node as in progress, according the progress status colors, and a red circle as icon, that I put it myself to represent an important task or an task that must wait something else)
And the progress extension, for me, is'nt so visual atractive, because it changes the color of the node, and I organize myself better wich different colors in different levels. But that is another story...
