What should we focus on next?
MindMup is community driven, so we’ll work on what our users want the most. For best results, please:
- Formulate ideas as work objectives (explain why, not just what/how). For example, ‘collaborate with friends remotely’ is much better than asking for ‘google realtime v2.0 integration’
- Do not submit stuff anonymously. We want to discuss your proposal with you if it gets votes, and anonymous submissions don’t allow us to do that. Ideas submitted anonymously will most likely be closed.

Save editing history with the map for safe collaboration
When different people work on standard google doc documents, it is possible to see the last changes and document history and to restore previous document versions. It makes collaboration easier because changes are easy to see and safer because old versions can be restored and no information is lost.
I suggest that same functionality becomes available in mindmup.
32 votesYou can now view and restore map history (works even with all maps saved to Google Drive with MindMup 2 since we released the app). Here’s a quick demo https://www.mindmup.com/news/2017/10/30/version-history.html

Add numbers to nodes of the same level (like numbered bullets in a Word document)
Add an option to add numbers to all sub nodes of a node, so they re-number when the node is moved. Possibly extend this to all nodes in the mup.
In the example below, if '2. Another Tree' is moved up, it becomes '1. Another Tree'. If '1.2. branch b' is moved up it becomes '1.1. branch b', and the twigs/leaf a become 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 & 1.1.2.1
Forest
1. Tree
1.1. Branch a
1.2. Branch b
1.2.1. Twig a
1.2.2. Twig b
1.2.2.1. Leaf a
2. Another TreeThis allows a mindmup to be used as a procedure for…

I love the export to HTML outline (since I am a writer). It would be really cool to be able to import from that same format for editing.
I love the export to HTML outline (since I am a writer). It would be really cool to be able to import from that same format for batch (replace) and other types of editing. THis wouldn't even need to work very well. All I want to do is download the HTML file, change the text somewhat (not the formatting) and then import it back in again.
31 votesyou can now create HTML outlines with mindmup 2.0, just use Download As→Outline→select HTML

Increase or decrease the size of nodes relative to each other
Sometimes it would be helpful to describe relationships for parent nodes or key ideas to be represented by larger nodes than derivative or "child" nodes or ideas. Increasing or decreasing the size of the boxes relative to each other would be a good way to represent that relationship conceptually.
30 votesthis is now supported using the new drawing engine, which allows users to define default sizes, colors, fonts etc for nodes. For more info, see http://blog.mindmup.com/p/custom-css-styling.html
we plan to work on this feature more over the next month and reduce the dependency on CSS. At the moment, styling the map requires a bit of CSS knowledge.

orthogonal lines
When you have got a large Mindmap with nodes that have a lot of child nodes you get problems with the clarity.
The straight line extension does a lot for more clearity but the inclined lines still seem kind of messy.
Straight and orthogonal lines as an additional option would make large mindmaps clearer, especially when some nodes have a lot of chilld nodes that are on the same level.30 votesuse view→map theme→simple and you’ll get almost rectangular lines that make larger maps easier to comprehend

Make collaboration easier by better integration with the Google Docs collaboration tools
Presently it is a bit combersome to collaborate with the collaboration extension. It would be so nice if it could just work like with Google Docs: everybody who has permission can edit simultaniously.
One of the MindMup explanation pages states it nicely this way: "We have lots of interesting ideas for improving the collaboration workflow, and the end-game, we hope, is completely merging collaboration into normal google drive maps, so that collaboration requires no specific set-up or extension loading, and that collaborative maps no longer have the limits imposed by the Google Realtime API (10MB limit per map). This would…

Ensure Google Docs Collaboration Works after Realtime API is Deprecated November 2018
Mindmup's Google drive and realtime API based collaboration are two fundamental "killer" features, without them the product loses out very substantially to competitors.
Google will pull the realtime API November 2018, after this time those documents and features will likely stop working.
https://developers.google.com/google-apps/realtime/deprecation
It's essential (imho) to the future of Mindmup that effort should be put in now to ensure this does not affect user's existing work (it still loads after this time without any changes/conversion) and that those same app features are available after the API is withdrawn.
29 votesIt’s now possible to convert maps that used realtime api to plain google files, and edit them. we also added some features to warn users about remote changes, and merging in remote changes.

Link nodes to maps / Slide maps
When you have a huge map that is not usefull, so could be nice to slide a huge map and let the connection between the child maps and the parent, or also to make different maps and joint them by some nodes, or link a node to some other map, to easy navigate between small information. This is nice to laptop, where the screen is tiny and also the memory.
29 votesIf I understand correctly what you’re suggestng here, this already works.
each map has a unique URL, and you can just paste the map URL into a node of a different map to link them. See http://blog.mindmup.com/2013/03/hyperlinks-in-nodes.html for more info on how hyperlinks in nodes work.

Set default colour for new nodes
I'd like new nodes to take on the most recently applied colour. This will make it easier to create a map that does not use the default grey and also make it easier to add clusters of nodes sharing a colour.

Index view and conversion tool for .docx and google docs
Be able to see the mindmap as an index view, with options for longer text underneath. Would be great when studying and cramming different subjects!
For example, a mindmap in index view would look like:
- root header -- sub header 1 -- Sub header 2 --- Notes under sub header 2, with a long text --- Sub-sub header 1 -- Sub header 3
The conversion should not be too hard, would it? Automatically converting headers to nodes and sub-nodes on a mindmap, and texts and lists to connect to these nodes.
29 votesyou can already do this as File→Export To Local Disk→Text (or HTML). This will create a tab-separated outline or a HTML doc outline. You can easily load the tab separated file into Excel, or the HTML into word, to see the outline.
If I misunderstood the suggestion, please let me know what you’d expect to see/work different from that.

Allow embeddable content on nodes (such as YouTube videos, images, soundcloud songs)
It's useful to have graphic content in a mindmap, for example, a Youtuber could use some youtube vídeos to get inspired in a brinstorm, a designer could add logo concepts and an artist could add soundcloud music.
27 votesimages are now supported. See this for more information
http://blog.mindmup.com/p/images-and-icons-in-nodes.htmlvideos and soundcloud are going to be nearly impossible with the display technology we chose at the moment, but you can link to them easily if they are online http://blog.mindmup.com/2013/03/hyperlinks-in-nodes.html

save to dropbox
Would like to be able to save to dropbox. Google drive is nice but Still dropbox is more popular, I think. It has an API so should be possible to add. I don't want to use different online drives for ever (I do it now: Google drive, SkyDrive, Dropbox and even owncloud) but in the long rund I'd love to decide and then have maps and other documents in one place only.
26 votesdropbox integration is now available as an extension at http://www.mindmup.com – I’ll publish some documentation about it next week but it should be pretty intuitive as it is.

Ability to copy/paste mind maps from difarent files in central one
I have several mind maps separated. I need to copy all of them in one mind map, and I want to copy/paste all content from all those maps in one new CENTRAL file
25 votesthis is now done. you can just cut and paste (or copy and paste) a submap or a group of nodes across maps or even into a new map. see http://blog.mindmup.com/2014/03/you-can-now-copy-paste-across-maps.html for more information

Redefine the central node
The forced hierarchy from the first node makes it difficult to understand the relationships between subnodes. What if the first node later turns out not to be the 'central' idea and another node should be the central idea? How can we change the layout of the map to reflect this?
24 votesyou can now add multiple roots, disconnect nodes and float them, and manage multiple maps in the same file on mindmup 2.0.

Create folders for maps
It would be very beneficial for me to create folders to keep groups of mindmaps in. (and be able to access the folders from the "File" menu)
For example, I use the maps to plan for classes that I teach and having the ability to have a folder and potential subfolders for specific classes/days/etc would be very handy.
23 votesmindmup 2.0 works much better with google drive folders. See http://blog.mindmup.com/2015/10/mindmup-20-is-now-ready.html for more info

Change font size of a node
I want to be able to make some nodes bigger, kind of like headings, so they stand out. Someone else had requested this and it was marked as "completed", but I can't find any way to change the font size of a node.
20 votesyou can now change the text size in individual nodes easily. here’s how: https://youtu.be/AtIYtsAvSeE

Option to set default connection style
It would be nice if I could set the default style of the connection line to something other than red and dotted I have multiple connection lines and it gets tedious to change every single one individually.
20 voteswe’ve changed the default style now to something much more sensible. it is a neutral color and has an arrow, as this is what most of the interviewed users ended up changing it to anyway.
