What should we focus on next?

MindMup is community driven, so we’ll work on what our users want the most. For best results, please:
- Formulate ideas as work objectives (explain why, not just what/how). For example, ‘collaborate with friends remotely’ is much better than asking for ‘google realtime v2.0 integration’
- Do not submit stuff anonymously. We want to discuss your proposal with you if it gets votes, and anonymous submissions don’t allow us to do that. Ideas submitted anonymously will most likely be closed.

  1. Collapse all sub/child nodes action (menu/hotkey)

Un/folding only current node in a large map takes lots of time and space.
In other mindmap tools it's very handy to fold all sub/childs and unfold them one by one when it's needed.
For now, one has to go through each individual child to fold/collapse them all.
It's a problem on a large map after import form another format (everything is expanded, overlaped and slow).

you can select multiple nodes easily using hotkeys:
    - [ selects all children of the current node
    - { selects the current node and all children
    - number (1..9) selects all nodes on a particular level

then you can press F to fold or unfold. For example, press 2 and F, and you’ll fold the large map into something much more usable. Then you can expand individual nodes as you want.

  2. Fold/Unfold Maps by "Level"

different nodes branching from the center, have different numbers of children or depth i.e. more or less children. Would like a command to expand "level" by level where a level is all nodes at level 1 or level 2, ... level N. (the center is level 0)
This is analogous to a file explorer. This feature provides good overviews especially as maps expand their complexity.

  3. Ability to have right angle connectors

the curvy connectors are good in that they avoid connectors being covered by nodes, however for me, right angle connectors would be even better as they would be clearer to quickly see the links and in general less distracting

  4. Customise connection looks

Now we have more connections to nodes than strictly hierarchical (yay!), it would be great to customise their looks. This way you can much better create a map (other than a tree), include webbed groups of nodes, or even 'hide' the inherent tree hierarchy the system imposes.

MindMup responded earlier that "If [connecting nodes] turns out to be useful and popular, we’ll probably extend it with arrows, line types etc." so here we go ask for it, because it sure is highly useful. I run into the issue nearly every time I use the tool. (Asking for a real reduction…

  5. Concept Mapping Functionnalities

Mind map are great. Concepts maps are awesome.

This is more a purpose direction that a simple feature request.

The there is actually no tools to make free collaborative conept map online. None.
Functionnalities from a Mind Mapping software and a Concept mapping one is not very different. But we have to have the possibility to things just as :
    - create floating node
    - have a link tool between two distant nodes
    - text on link bewteen nodes
    - ability to have a non hierarchical behavior (all nodes are not parent or child, they can have a lot relationship)

  6. Enter a node without a connection to anything else - so we know we need to make connections

Enter a node without a connection to anything else - so we know we need to make connections at some point in the future. Would help planning.

  9. Remember preferable type of storage

As a rule, I keep all my mindmaps on Google Drive. But every time, I start new mindmap, I must set Drive as a place storage.

To avoid it, it is possible to remember a storage choice, from the previous mindmap.

  10. Ability to easily save maps with a custom file name

It would be great to be able to choose a different file name to save the map against, as my core node is often a question and can be quite long

  12. Linking Google Drive files to nodes

It would be great to be able to link nodes with specific files on GDrive. This would dramatically improve collaboration on ideas with extensive information background and/or requesting collaborative document creation.

I could create a link to a specific shared document on my Drive and collaborators could open and read/edit it. I understand it is a matter of rights and IDs but it'd be a great leap forward.

  13. creating mindmap in current working directory

When I create a new mind map it is always saved to the root of Google My Drive. It would be great if it created the .mup file in the current working directory when I click the create button.

  14. Support for copying and pasting nodes to ASCII/ HTML

Being able to select the top node of a tree and then pasting the content of that entire tree to ASCII or exporting just that piece as HTML would be super awesome. Please see video demonstrating desired behavior.

sorry for a delayed response, this has been supported for a while but I didn’t notice the uservoice task due to low number of votes. You should be able to copy a part of a map now just by selecting the root of the submap and using ctrl+c (or edit→copy from the browser menu) then paste it as text or html into any other program

  15. collaborate without the need of google

Yope! I have seen that for collaborative use of mindmup, the use of google drive is mandatory. I want to ever get rid of google (i tend to that slowly actually), so would like to collaborate without google!

    thanks!

  16. Facilitate multiple parent nodes

When two ideas converge to form a new point that needs both parents. This is different to just connecting two arbitrary nodes together. It might require a reorganization of the map layout to keep it looking neat.

MindMup for iOS devices is now available for general use – we’re taking the Beta marker off, because we finally ensured that users of the mobile app are as productive as when using the desktop app. It’s not implementing the idea as you suggested, but it makes it very easy to add nodes.

For more info about the mobile app, and to install it on your iOS device, see http://discover.mindmup.com/mindmup-for-ios

  18. Collaboration doesn't work with Google 2-step verification

Realtime collaboration doesn't work when 2-step verification is enabled for a google account. All out teachers are using 2-step verification, so they can't share a mindmup in real time. They can participate, but not create a mindmup share.

    How about fixing it? ;-)

  19. Change to color of Connect lines so you can more easily track them

I would like to be able to change the color of all the Connect lines connected to a given node. This way if you have multiple nodes using Connect lines you can more easily determine the node of origin/destination.
