connecting nodes to each other
WHY: sometimes I want to show a connection between other nodes than the parent/sibling/child nodes
the first version of this is live now. See http://blog.mindmup.com/p/custom-links-between-nodes.html for more info. Touch devices aren’t yet fully supported, we’re working on that. If this turns out to be useful and popular, we’ll probably extend it with arrows, line types etc. Let us know what you think about it on this forum.

Does anybody know, if it's possible to enter an email address like mailto: in the MS applications. The aim is to do start page from which homepages or email could be started/sent

How can I get multiple connectors to various nodes?

I am using Chrome and am unable to get the tool bar to show up for links, therefore cannot delete a mistake. What am I doing wrong?

Great start. It would be great if we could set the connectors to the same style as the normal parent-child links (and ideally format/label the links and connections).

Yes, definitely please extend this feature so we have more options. Thank you! It's a great start.

Hi,
it is a good feature, but we need more options.
As said by some other before :
1- Tagged the connector
2- Arrows on the both side of the connector
3- Editing the curve of the conector, like on Mindmeister, to make vector curve, and not only straight line (if you connect a child to his grand parent, you don't see the connector :/) -

Creating links between nodes is not that useful without being able to label those connections. Could you please add a feature that does that?

I really like MindMup but sometimes I have the problem, that I build several MindMaps depending on categories like "Project XY" which has a lot of nodes and one of the nodes is the starting of a new MindMap, like "Training".
So I create a new MindMap "Training" which has a lot of content. What really would help would be a feature to connect "Project XY --> Training-Node" with the new MindMap which is saved in a separate MindMap File.
Helpful would be the posibility to link the "Trainig.mup" with the "Training-Node" in "ProjectXY.mup". So by trying to expand the node it could open the other Map (maybe a preview function for the linked Mup in the area where you show the Storyboard...). -

I would REALLY like to be able to ad text to the connector.

Setting a default line style would be greatly appreciated (e.g. I prefer solid lines with arrows to indicate dependencies)

Not sure whether this is the right place for this comment, but I'll start a new request if necessary. I think the connection feature is great and really useful, but I'd like to create a connection that doesn't privilege the first and already connected node. At present, creating a node and then connecting a child to it and then connecting several other nodes to the child leaves the child located closest to the parent it was connected to.. Even though I changed the colour of the connection line to "grey" and made it solid rather than dotted, it's still clear that the node isn't a truly shared connection, but a child node connected to the parent with other connections grouped around it.

useful to me; more usable if I can change the map view by filtering connectors by type, like layers on a technical drawing.
Adding connectors makes the maps more and more complex: filtering is a "progressive disclosure" tool. -

For me, the current state of the feature is good enough.
That would be fair to close this request as resolved, and separately count votes on additional features like arrows and descriptions. -

illustrated version looks like a good start - and for many, the organisational advantage of having a default 'snap-to' sort of structure is going to work well... BUT... I'd like to see this augmented with a fully-arbitrary placement. Being able to make connections in the manner described by this topic is good, but being able to organise the nodes spatially in such a way that they can help to clarify the structures that often emerge *while* I am constructing the mindmap would be better. It's true that I might be able after the fact to make a 'fair copy' of my thinking that exploits the handy hierarchical defaults - but this is definitely an ex post facto activity for me. To use mindmup as a thinking tool, I need it to grow and be flexible in an arbitrary way as I develop my cognitive exploration of a topic.

the custom link doesn't seem to work between parent and child - I can only get it to work between parent and a node other than the parent. Otherwise, good start. If it's too much trouble right now to allow descriptions of the link, the ability to freely place text (we could create our own connector descriptors) would help a lot.

I like this feature a lot... adding arrows and line types would be great; and even this basic feature is doing the job already!

Also, please make it possible to:
1) name the connection between the two nodes
2) add an arrow: left to right, right to left and both ways -
Simon - will control+click be any better on chromebook? we can make both control and alt work, for example

Thanks again for your responsive approach to new features.
First comment - Short-cut key does not work: Alt-click is the right-click menu option on my Chromebook Pixel. -

excellent new feature.
an idea just a step from this maybe to also have node aliasing
meaning we could first link any node anywhere with the linking feature
and then hide the connection
and have the distant node be aliased as if they were close to eachother.
The other thing with this is, if the parent or copy changes, it changes all aliases
