Adding attributes to nodes
Why: to enrich the nodes with additional structured data, so the mind map can be used for importing/exporting purposes. Freemind has the same feature where you can switch the visibility of the attributes.

To me a generic structured data would be sufficient, perhaps just a key/value pair list of attributes so that I can store specific values on nodes.
and I realise this was submitted in 2013....

I would love to export my mindmap to software like Neo4j which can support nodes with multiple attributes. So I could create nodes with custom fields/attributes such as:
{type: "Person", name:'Keanu Reeves', born:1964}
{type: "Movie", title:'The Matrix', released:1999, tagline:'Welcome to the Real World'}Neo4j also allows attributes for relationships.
Basically I would like to create custom key/value pairs in my JSON so that I could do further analysis in another tool. -

"what structured data? Can you give us a few examples?"
Example marks nodes as question and different types of answers for export to Anki -

A simple samples of structured data would be an automatic Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) numbering, so that schematic cost planning can be arranged

Would impact map metrics be a good candidate for attributes, with an associated display ? It feels having subnodes for metrics is kind of overkill.
If one indeed wants to have individual metric as a subnode, then attributes such as "target, limit, current might" factor out those among metrics nodes

Well, speaking for myself, in my current usage scenario we're using mindmup for software project planning. By the way, I never planned / brainstormed quicker then with this wonderful tool, thanks so much!
So, we start with generic ideas / major components close to map root, and the further we get to sides of them map, the lower-grained our items become, down to pretty fine granularity (single work items for instance).
We'd love to have the ability to add e.g. "estimations" (hours, story points, whatever) to some of the nodes, so that they get summed up on parent nodes (ideally).
Currently we need to constantly sync our spreadsheet with estimations (produced as an export from mindmup anyway) with the map itself on every map change. And as our requirements change as frequently as usually happens for dynamic software projects, the time required for syncronization is pretty significant.
Having estimations linked to map nodes as attribute would require us just to re-export the map on each change, which would save lots of time.
