What should we focus on next?

MindMup is community driven, so we’ll work on what our users want the most. For best results, please:
- Formulate ideas as work objectives (explain why, not just what/how). For example, ‘collaborate with friends remotely’ is much better than asking for ‘google realtime v2.0 integration’
- Do not submit stuff anonymously. We want to discuss your proposal with you if it gets votes, and anonymous submissions don’t allow us to do that. Ideas submitted anonymously will most likely be closed.

  1. Node position freezing

The ability to freeze portions of the layout while adjusting other parts. Too often I end up fighting the automatic repositioning of nodes and groups that are adjusted after I move a different node or group.

This is desirable because the relative positioning of the bubbles is important to an intuitive understanding of how they relate functionally, and the engine that repositions groups of nodes occasionally makes it difficult to achieve the desired layout (within defined constraints).

  2. Protect Node from Accidental Deletion

Right click on a node and select "Protect from Accidental Deletion/Modification". While the undo-redo options are there... while collaborating, you may be unsure of the changes and this would act as a good safe.

Provide a warning prompt that this node is currently protected and cannot be modified without removing protection

  3. Map Jumps Around When Attempting to Select node

I few weeks back I notice maps started jumping around when trying to select a node. I can try to select several different nodes and still the same reaction. This seems to happen after several other nodes have been selected and moved.

To correct this, I usually have to save, close and re-open the browser. I'm on W8.1 PC with Firefox 32+.

  4. Hotkey Window Suggestions

    1) Load the Hotkey Window on the left, by default. Given the map always populates on the right, it ends up under the window with empty space on the left. OR
    2) Add a keystroke to show/hide the window. OR
    3) Have it drop-down out of the toolbar vis keystroke.
    4) When the mouse pointer hovers over a colour in the colour selector, pop-up the colour name/HEX.
    5) Within the colour selector, adding most commonly used custom colours would be nice.

    Great product guys!

  5. Add "Save current and Load different map" button in confirmation dialog "confirm that you would like to load a different map".

If I try to load different map and I did not save current map, I have a message:
"There are unsaved changes in the current map. Please confirm that you would like to load a different map."
And I have a buttons "Load anyway" and "Cancel".
If I want to save the current map, I have to press "Cancel", "Save", and select different map again.

We need a new button "Save current map and Load different map" to quick switching between maps.

  7. Export to LaTeX

Exporting to LaTeX would mean that most of the text could be written in Mindmup. It would not only support the writing process by outlining and stroy boarding, it would be the process with all the flexibility that mindmapping brings.

Imagine how cool it would be to Start on Mindmup with an outlining mindmap, carving out the arguments. Then you drag and drop things in place so that you have a nice structure for your paper. Last you adapt the text to the new structure and click export. Here you go, open it in your favourite editor, wipe out the…

  8. Assign team member's avatar to a node

When working in teams, it would be good to be able to assign a team member to a task, i.e. by adding the team's member avatar to the node to show who is working on what.... like they do it in Trello

Having said that, rather than having a whole team and team members model implemented, having a way to generally tag a node with a small picture would be really useful. When editing the map, one can then simply choose a team member's mugshot for instance.

  9. Right click = Copy / Start this branch on a new tab with this a root - optional keep branch also in origonal

I have used this facility in Microsoft's Visio mindmap templates. You begin to construct a mind map not realizing were you are going to end up. Many branches and sub-branches later you decide this branch is probably better with its own mind map. Now the copy feature was / is great. But this idea would shorten the work in developing of spring mind maps.

  10. Export in PDF with the progress legend in use.

I would like to show and present my mindmup files.
To do that I need to export in PDF files (not always I want to share my files to other people) with the progress legend I set.
    Sincerely,
    Nicola

  16. Discussion mode

The goal is to permit structured discussion between many participants (so in collaborative mode). Presently, during complexe discussion on the net, the post can be very looooonng and the participant lost informations, many repetition are needed, and this is can be very frustating.

I think mind map can be an answer to explore for this problem. The key element of a discussion mode in the interface will be:
    - A vote button (Like or Dislike) to give a score to a node;
    - A quick access to the content of a node: when a node is selected, the content would…

  17. Ability to "save as"/"open" and use Freemind format instead of .mup

I have several kinds of maps on various environments and operating systems, private and at work. What connects them is the Freemind format. Instead of exporting my .mup to .mm, it would be great to have the choice, which format I want to use for my work.

This would be better than export/import, because it would remain only ONE map. An export creates a new map, so I can't work on my original map for improvements, if I have to use another tool. Afterwards I have to reimport all the changes manually into my orininal .mup or create another "new"…

  18. Offer geometric shapes for node bubbles - if the topic has three important points, use a triangle and attach children to the points.

Three points = triangle / four points = rectangle, square / five points = star and so on. Allow 'children' to be placed at the appropriate position to make that point. This is visually quicker to read and remember. Also, please allow horizontal / landscape format for the page design.

  19. Dropbox Save to dropbox extensions save to custom directory

When seeing that there is a save to Dropbox option, I immediately chose Mindmup, however, it can only save them to Dropbox/Apps/Mindmup. I would like it to be Dropbox/Mindmup.

  20. Ability to store on cloudstation or other private cloud

For mind-mups not intended for anyone, the ability to store them to your own cloud service is essential, especially in the light of recent NSA activities. Like many others, I own a NAS from Synology and use the "cloudstation" service provided by it. I would like to be able to use it for storage of Mindmups.
