What should we focus on next?

MindMup is community driven, so we’ll work on what our users want the most. For best results, please:
- Formulate ideas as work objectives (explain why, not just what/how). For example, ‘collaborate with friends remotely’ is much better than asking for ‘google realtime v2.0 integration’
- Do not submit stuff anonymously. We want to discuss your proposal with you if it gets votes, and anonymous submissions don’t allow us to do that. Ideas submitted anonymously will most likely be closed.

  1. Ability to "save as"/"open" and use Freemind format instead of .mup

I have several kinds of maps on various environments and operating systems, private and at work. What connects them is the Freemind format. Instead of exporting my .mup to .mm, it would be great to have the choice, which format I want to use for my work.

This would be better than export/import, because it would remain only ONE map. An export creates a new map, so I can't work on my original map for improvements, if I have to use another tool. Afterwards I have to reimport all the changes manually into my orininal .mup or create another "new"…

  2. Offer geometric shapes for node bubbles - if the topic has three important points, use a triangle and attach children to the points.

Three points = triangle / four points = rectangle, square / five points = star and so on. Allow 'children' to be placed at the appropriate position to make that point. This is visually quicker to read and remember. Also, please allow horizontal / landscape format for the page design.

  3. Dropbox Save to dropbox extensions save to custom directory

When seeing that there is a save to Dropbox option, I immediately chose Mindmup, however, it can only save them to Dropbox/Apps/Mindmup. I would like it to be Dropbox/Mindmup.

  4. Ability to store on cloudstation or other private cloud

For mind-mups not intended for anyone, the ability to store them to your own cloud service is essential, especially in the light of recent NSA activities. Like many others, I own a NAS from Synology and use the "cloudstation" service provided by it. I would like to be able to use it for storage of Mindmups.

  5. So now we have measures... while not importing a EXCEL CSV file ?

    * first line will be columns titles
    * first column will be the nodes names... nodes that will be automatically created in the map as childs of the currently selected node
    * following columns will be the measures

  6. Show multiple measures on map

It would be a great visual aid to be able to see multiple measures at the same time on the map.

Let's say we have Business Value, Effort, Cost as measures.

That would give a nice overview of where to put the money and not.

  7. view map as (online) slides

I use mindmap to create slidedecks outline. One click slide-deck generation would thus be nice.

Already implemented for Freemind at http://berteh.github.io/mindslide (disclaimer: I'm the developer of this project)

  8. Shortcuts for templates and patterns

Create and apply patterns (like in Freemind). For reference, the shortcuts in FM are F1-F9, Ctrl + (F1-F9).

  9. Make keyboard shortcuts similar to Google Docs & Word

Google Docs (Google Sheets) has a distinct set of key-board shortcuts. Mindmup uses the same shortcuts to different purposes.

E.g. Enter = Edit cell (both for Word and Google Docs). However, in Mindmup a New item is being generated.

With integration with MS office / Google Docs becoming ever more prominent, it would greatly simplify things if only one set of short-cuts is used.

It would be nice to, for example, add a template of short-cuts that is more in line with the shortcuts used by MS office and google docs.

  10. Offer a "backlog" view

As a Product Owner I use the mind map to have an overall view of the feature of the product (mainly at the beginning of the project). In the case, each branch is considered as a user story.
However, the mind map is not able to show the priorization of the US in the backlog.
My wish is to offer a "backlog" view where each branch is a backlog item and the user can drag'n drop the item to prioritize them (and them group the item in sprints...)

  11. Drag and drop all selected nodes

Currently, when multiple nodes are selected and dragged on another node, only one of the selected nodes is moved.
It would be better to be able to move all of the selected nodes to the destination node at the same time (like with Freemind)

  12. Elastic connections of variable strength that move the nodes to an efficient balanced position

This is to allow users to take multiple complex interrelated issues and have them self-position in logical related locations. This would simplify complex decision making.

  13. Nodes -- Inserting Carriage Return - Use Alt/CR combination

When inserting a Carriage Return into a node you have to use the Shift/CR key combination. It would be more intuitive if this used the Alt/CR combination, similar to that used in spreadsheets.

  14. Export Connected Lines in FreeMind

As far as a I can tell, connected lines do not export to FreeMind. I am using them a lot to show relationships between different ideas on the map, and would love to get them exported as well as the simple hierarchy.

  16. Numeric formatting for measurements appearing on a node

When using the measurement feature, it would be nice to provide a way of formatting the data when it appears on a node. For example, specify 3 decimal places, or a leading currency symbol, etc.

  17. Title Box for MindMup

Simple 3 line table that could be inserted anywhere on the screen so that you can include the Mindmup Title, Author, revision and other details.

  18. Retain last navigated node

When arrowing down in the hierarchy and then back up - when you navigate back down follow the most resent route to the same nodes (if none then default to the top one)

  19. option for a node to be a 3x3 grid

Not all ideas have a hierarchical structure. Some ideas consist of two or more dimensions that combine together, and neither can be considered the parent of the other. I would like to put these kinds of ideas inside my hiearchically structured mind map.

Maybe this could be an "extension" and have its menu or buttons up the top? So if I select a node, then I can click the button to turn that node into a 3x3 grid, and then I can enter text into any of the nine sections in the node. If I only want a 2x2 grid,…

  20. Turn off "auto-arrange"

so that we can arrange maps in a way that makes the most sense based on how we use the map.
