Cursors and avatars for every active collaborator so that I can see their work and focus as it's in motion.
Currently it's possible to interfere with the efforts of other collaborators because it's not possible to see where edits are intended or in progress as they happen.
Google sheets for example offers functionality that allows users to collaborate easily by:
- Showing where a user is focused / performing an edit using a cursor colour coded to a list of live-user's avatars
Another important fact is that when collaborating on a graph such as a mindmap it's possible to edit in ways that might remove the node another user is currently focused on, or that are so substantial it disorientates other users.
Therefore it's important to look for ways users can signpost or otherwise propose an edit by carrying it out in a way it is visible in a "before and after" visualisation before it happens. Proposed changes can then be applied with UX (consider animations or a collaborative approval process) that makes it easy for all collaborators to follow.
