What should we focus on next?

MindMup is community driven, so we’ll work on what our users want the most. For best results, please:
- Formulate ideas as work objectives (explain why, not just what/how). For example, ‘collaborate with friends remotely’ is much better than asking for ‘google realtime v2.0 integration’
- Do not submit stuff anonymously. We want to discuss your proposal with you if it gets votes, and anonymous submissions don’t allow us to do that. Ideas submitted anonymously will most likely be closed.

  1. Paste Pictures from Clipboard

I use mindmup to generate the outline of scientific papers which usually involves to include information stored in graphs and pictures. I love the feature to download the Mindmap later into a word file including the pictures, which gives me a very fast way to draft a paper. Now the only thing annoying is, that i have to upload pictures every time i wan to use it. I would love to copy paste it so i can use screen shots quickly in the map.

  2. Show the number of child nodes in a collapsed branch

For collapsed braches, in addition to the node box graphic changing to a set of 4 stacked nodes (which bears no relation to how many nodes have been hidden) add a label to the stack graphic which shows the number of child nodes that are hidden eg (+23). Clicking on the stack/label or using / would then expand the child nodes. Similar to the paper click for attachments

  3. Table Node

One feature I see in lots of other mind maps is a small table in the node, thus giving the user the ability to list longer lists of related information without having to create many extra nodes.

  5. Drag and Drop PDF files onto a node.

Drag and drop visuals into a node is a great feature. However can this be extended to PDFs? and other file types like DXF , DWG. I often have 2d tech drawings of parts that I would like to include into a map that will contain all the other documentation for a part. Think of the Mindmup as a visual brain dump of all the issues related to a component.

  6. Unfold other related nodes by handmade connections

Conections to hidden (while folded) nodes disappear. That's pretty cool.

When I want to see every relation to this node, it would be great to unfold every tree to the related nodes to show the connection lines.

I think it would be nice if you want to change the relationship of nodes to be able to with out having to delete.

  8. Nested tagging. Use sidebars. 1.To list & arrange tags 2.Click on tag(s) to see and rearrange nodes in this view only

Ha. Didn't realise I'd get to describe. Basically, I'd like to use taking to create another layer of node organisation. So, my map has ToDo items arranged by project, but i can tag for "who's responsible" and "when" and "where". One node can have multiple tags. Nested tag hierarchy can be seen/adjusted in a sidebar. Click on tag to view nodes in another sidebar and, ideally, be able to move around the sequence (for better planning) in the sidebar without affecting their position on the map.

Example: "Meet with vendor mgr" node is tagged, "Wed" "Sue" "City Arena". See all…

  9. Inherit parent styling for child nodes

Child nodes should inherit styling (background and text) from parent nodes. This would save a lot of time having to go back and reformat.

  10. view map as (online) slides

I use mindmap to create slidedecks outline. One click slide-deck generation would thus be nice.

Already implemented for Freemind at http://berteh.github.io/mindslide (disclaimer: I'm the developer of this project)

  11. mindmup map deep urls autocenters to specific node

It is currently possible to create links between maps see http://blog.mindmup.com/2013/03/hyperlinks-in-nodes.html?showComment=1393867456889#c3163715184592638793

It would be great that these link provide ability to link to a specific node within a map. When opening this link, the specific node will be selected and centered on the middle of the screen.

I'm thinking the mindmup URL format could have an anchor part that targets a specific node.

Ideally, the browser address bar will change each time a node is selected (e.g. adding a short md5 hash of the node texte), and this link can be simply reused to deep link to that node.

    Alternatively,…

  13. Balance nodes for presentation mode

Plan on sharing a map on my website eventually, so it would be nice to see a "Balance map" functionality to help get the layout into a more presentable format that uses real estate more efficiently.

  14. OS integration of file associations for Chrome App

Open local .mup by file association from desktop or file manager, as in 'Text App' example¹.

The app's file_handlers² key is already enabled in manifest, so I get "open with mindmup" suggestion from my file manager, but the app launches into the 'start menu' modal instead of my .mup

  15. Search within NOTES, not just Node Titles

I've voted for the ability to Search in Attachments, but also need the ability to search within NOTES. If these can two processes can be developed together, great, otherwise, I figured this needs to be a separate topic. Here is a a link the other, related idea: (https://mindmup.uservoice.com/forums/200447-what-should-we-focus-on-next/suggestions/5779806-please-extend-the-search-to-text-within-node-attac)

  16. Progress - Ability to assign tasks to people

The ability to have a list of people and then assign tasks to those people.
Then have a way to list or show the tasks assigned to a specific person.
This could be added to Measurements with the ability to add a text field that only shows on the last end nodes as you would not want any calculation.
You could then download to a spreadsheet as well.
Then you would need a way to list only the nodes with a particular person assigned but this is not essential.

  17. Associating metadata with nodes to enable linear sorts and alternative layouts

Another user suggested alternative layouts like hierarchical views, but another layout that would be useful for me is a linear sort to be able to see nodes in order of when they were created/edited. This would require associating timestamp metadata with each node. I'm not sure if this is already done, but even if it is, being able to sort over this metadata would be awesome.

The suggestion for alternative layouts is here: http://mindmup.uservoice.com/forums/200447-what-should-we-focus-on-next-/suggestions/4126728-provide-alternative-outline-view

  18. RDF / RWW Storage

http://data.fm/ & http://rww.io/ are some examples of RWW Storage. These platforms are designed to support Linked Data; or RDF.

Mindmup could be used for developing ontological references, or functional processes, such as managing, navigating or appending RDF Data, stored on RWW Services.

The simplest method would simply be to start by adding WebID AUTH; and the means to connect / store, on available LDP instances (ie: rww.io data.fm, etc.)

Longer-term, ontological tools could be used to help people define RDF Graph Data, using the MindMup interface.

  19. Bind hotkeys for node colors

It'll be great to have shortcuts for user colors - i.e.:
    Ctrl+1 - red
    Ctrl+2 - green
It will be very useful to quickly change node status - for example, if you managing current tasks and switching priorities and statuses of tasks.
