What should we focus on next?

MindMup is community driven, so we’ll work on what our users want the most. For best results, please:
- Formulate ideas as work objectives (explain why, not just what/how). For example, ‘collaborate with friends remotely’ is much better than asking for ‘google realtime v2.0 integration’
- Do not submit stuff anonymously. We want to discuss your proposal with you if it gets votes, and anonymous submissions don’t allow us to do that. Ideas submitted anonymously will most likely be closed.

  1. Create Time Lines

I'd like to create a different kind of map entirely. I think that a timeline mode would be appropriate to the platform.

  3. Decision-mapping functionality

I would love to see the ability to create decision maps. They are similar to the existing argument map functionality. What argument mapping enables you to see is the support for and against a single idea.

With decision-mapping, the top node would be a question, for example, "What should we do about X?" Below that node, would be possible options/solutions. Below those option nodes, you would then have the typical argument mapping nodes (reasons in favor of or against the node above).

Currently there is a "hacky" way to create a decision map using the existing functionality, but it isn't…

  4. Allow for comments in the text notes widow

Allowing authors and shared editors and reviewers (teams) to leave comments (i.e. in balloons like in google docs or MS products). This function would make shared working and mind mapping in teams more functional, and help with personal brain storming.

  5. Allow links to files on user's hard drive

One great feature of Freemind that is missing from Mindmup is the ability drag files from Windows explorer into an mm map and links to the files are automatically created as nodes. Can be a single file or a whole folder. Clicking on the links, opens the files. This is the only feature I have found missing from Mindmup that I use regularly with Freemind.

  6. Add more location for data hosting

Add more location for data hosting.
So far only us-east-1 region. It's a problem for many European company. It could be nice to other location.

  7. Remember setting for "Label nodes for measurement"

It appears that showing measurement values on nodes is something that has to be enabled each time that a map is opened. Would be great if it could be toggled on as a property of the document so that the information was always displayed (especially to non-authors with whom the document is being shared!).

  8. PLEASE make it so that free users can look back at their own maps.

I recently spent about an hour making a mind map for school. I saved it, copied the link, and turned it in. Now the link doesn't work and I can't look through my old maps and get it back. Why would I ever spend money on a website that just deletes my work?

  10. Download as Storyboard in word INCLUDING hierarchical numbers

The function Download as Storyboard in word is already great! If it could include the numbers-view, so that the titels in word are already for example hierarchical defined the way we see it in mindmup, the work with mindmup would become even more effectiv. Or is it already possible and I don´t know this yet?

  11. Share map with a google group

Some companies manage team permissions through google groups. It would be great to be able to share view/edit permissions with a whole google group, and have these permissions updated as the google group changes.

  13. Put clickable weblinks into the notes sidebar

Please can you find a way to do this as there is no option at present and if you hover over the sidebar and click on the note it take you to the node. It would be great to refer to papers in Google drive or websites.

  14. jump to another line

I need to separate my notes in the same node. But this is not allowed at this moment. I hope that the apps can be updated later with a function that is jumping to the next line by clicking "Enter" or anything in the same node.

  15. CTRL + CLICK = Collapse, SHIFT + CLICK = EXPAND

Space is a limited resource. The ability to collapse/expand a node allows us to manage the limited resource defined by our screen-size. The smaller your screen-size, the more valuable it is to be able to manage this limited resource. This feature would empower users with the capability of managing their most valuable resource... space... And that's why you should vote for this idea! :)

  16. Adjust divider between map and sidebar

The user should to be able to adjust the divider between the map and sidebar.
This should be a persistent setting if the user leaves the app and returns, hides and shows the sidebar, etc.
Double clicking the divider could restore it to the default 50/50 state.
I apologize if this feature request already exists, I couldn't find it quickly.

  18. border customization

Could you add a feature to customize border of nodes?

    • changing the border line type: dashed line, dotted line, straight line
    • changing the color or the border line
    • changing the width of the border line

  20. Insert parent node(s)

The behavior of the current insert parent node doesn't match my expectations. It adds layers to the hierarchy instead of adding another parent to the current node.

Having the ability for a map hierarchy to converge on a node from multiple parents is missing here (and in a lot of other mind mapping software). But I think it's a pretty fundamental structure. Family trees and git source control graphs come to mind.
