What should we focus on next?

MindMup is community driven, so we’ll work on what our users want the most. For best results, please:
- Formulate ideas as work objectives (explain why, not just what/how). For example, ‘collaborate with friends remotely’ is much better than asking for ‘google realtime v2.0 integration’
- Do not submit stuff anonymously. We want to discuss your proposal with you if it gets votes, and anonymous submissions don’t allow us to do that. Ideas submitted anonymously will most likely be closed.

  1. Calendar plugin that allows users to set dates to nodes

Being able to generate a basic calendar from nodes would be very nice. Ideally that calendar would be able to sync to ical and etc.

    eg:
    3DEC
    task 1
    task 2

    5DEC
    task1
    task 5

    etc.

  2. Expand/Collapse node with a single click

Would be great to expand/collapse a node with a single click, this is standard on all mind mapping tools I have used. Thanks.

  3. line thickness based on importance in mindmup 2.0

I find the small lines between nodes quite small. In the official Tony Buzan interpretation of mindmapping:
"The central lines are thicker, organic and flowing, becoming thinner as they radiate out from the centre."

As for the organic and flowing part: well done. However, line thickness stresses the importance of a node and as such, I'd like to have it in mindmup 2.0!

  4. Support Xmind for import and export!

    1-Notes (f4 Key)
    2-Label/Legend (f3 Key)
3-Multiple "mind maps sheets" on same "mind map" (like sheets from Excel)
4- Agregation of nodes with Summary (ctrl+]) and Boundaries (ctrl+B)

  5. Custom color palettes

The current color palette is limited and not aesthetically pleasing. I'd love to be able to go to (for example) colourlovers.com and find a palette that I like, and apply that palette to my map.

A good start to this would be to add CSS classes for colors 1 - 35, eg: .mapjs-color-1, .mapjs-color-2, .mapjs-color-3, etc. The color chooser widget should then use these class names to apply the color instead of the explicit RGB code. Then I could grap the color codes from colourlovers and use that to create a new palette.

  6. Link to jump to different node

Clicking a "link" button on the node jumps to a different node. Much like the anchor tags in HTML.

It would be really useful if I could do this by clicking specific text within the node. For instance, if the node said "Causes of shortness of breath: Asthma, CHF, Anemia, etc." I would like to click the text "asthma" and it jumps to the parent Asthma node somewhere else in the map and displays all it's siblings.

  8. Freer movement of parents and chidlren

At the moment you are very limited in where you can place Parents and Children-Perhaps introduce a "free" mode where you can place the Parents and Children wherever you want without everything automatically altering

  9. "Isolate" a node by zooming in, collapsing siblings, and centering on a selected node

For large trees it'd be nice to have a shortcut key that in one key press:

    1) centered & zoomed on the selected node
    2) collapsed the sibling nodes to "focus" the view on the selected sub-branch

  10. Ability to Reorder and Insert Nodes

Provide the ability to reorder nodes and insert nodes between existing nodes. It seems that now, you must delete all following nodes to add a node in the middle of an existing map.

  12. chat window and/or comments in collaboration

Could we have a chat window incorporated into the collaboration sessions along with a way to add comments that stay with the session after it's closed (without adding a node) kind of like Google docs does now? I think this would improve the collaboration capabilities a lot!

  13. Adding attributes to nodes

Why: to enrich the nodes with additional structured data, so the mind map can be used for importing/exporting purposes. Freemind has the same feature where you can switch the visibility of the attributes.

  16. Internationalization of the user interface

As far as I can see, the user interface is only available in English. This is be a big hurdle for those people that don't speak English. The user should be able to choose the interface language and the choice should stick between sessions.

Ideally the language could be specified as part of the access URL, so we can give it away to our users and be sure they will be accessing the application in the right language from the start.

  17. Zooming via mouse-wheel (touch-pad scroll)

Keyboard junkies will thank you for Z and Shift+Z, but most natural / popular and fast way of zooming "around maps" is via mouse-wheel.
It might interfere with touch-pad scroll/pan, but if you implement both - there will happy users instead of frustrated ones.

  19. Integration with Google Doc

Ability to create a linked Google Doc, eg. an indented bullet lists and or styled titles. Changing the map change the doc and vice versa.

The use case is : mapping the content of an article within MindMup and quickly jump to text editing without export / file management headache.

  20. Auto-fit and formatting

It would be great if you had a function that allowed the mind map to auto format so that all nodes would auto-arrange to fit the screen/map. Currently when nodes are created you need to manually sort them around the centre point. This can take time and never looks accurate. Also would be helpful to be able to change the size of the nodes or the font size in them.
