What should we focus on next?

MindMup is community driven, so we’ll work on what our users want the most. For best results, please:
- Formulate ideas as work objectives (explain why, not just what/how). For example, ‘collaborate with friends remotely’ is much better than asking for ‘google realtime v2.0 integration’
- Do not submit stuff anonymously. We want to discuss your proposal with you if it gets votes, and anonymous submissions don’t allow us to do that. Ideas submitted anonymously will most likely be closed.

  1. Turn off "auto-arrange"

so that we can arrange maps in a way that makes the most sense based on how we use the map.

  2. Possibility to freely place graphics or graphic elements on map

Would be great to be able to place graphic outline elements into the map. For example draw an outline around a group of nodes to create a different kind of more loose connection/grouping. Nice if such shapes could be colored too and placed behind the map.

  4. Add image from drive.

when adding icons/image it would be nice to use images already stored on google drive. and also a quick way to add other files stored in drive as attachments. I don't know if this is possible through the drive API but it would be very useful

  5. Ability to publish a map in a public directory

    I'm following up onto http://mindmup.uservoice.com/forums/200447-what-should-we-focus-on-next-/suggestions/3800017-searching-browsing-through-public-mind-maps

It would be great to be able to share publicly some maps. In the same way a drive document can be private, shared (anyone with the link), or public (searcheable and browseable).

When a map is made publicly available, a title and tags could be added, along with other metadata (author nick name, last modif date, creation date).

The public directory(ies) would be browseable by tags, last modification date, title, or words within the maps. Ideally the directory would be indexed by search engines, and maps would be indexed along.

    E.g. 'impact map mindmup" on…

  6. RDF / RWW Storage

http://data.fm/ & http://rww.io/ are some examples of RWW Storage. These platforms are designed to support Linked Data; or RDF.

Mindmup could be used for developing ontological references, or functional processes, such as managing, navigating or appending RDF Data, stored on RWW Services.

The simplest method would simply be to start by adding WebID AUTH; and the means to connect / store, on available LDP instances (ie: rww.io data.fm, etc.)

Longer-term, ontological tools could be used to help people define RDF Graph Data, using the MindMup interface.

  7. Link to jump to different node

Clicking a "link" button on the node jumps to a different node. Much like the anchor tags in HTML.

It would be really useful if I could do this by clicking specific text within the node. For instance, if the node said "Causes of shortness of breath: Asthma, CHF, Anemia, etc." I would like to click the text "asthma" and it jumps to the parent Asthma node somewhere else in the map and displays all it's siblings.

  8. Support Xmind for import and export!

    1-Notes (f4 Key)
    2-Label/Legend (f3 Key)
3-Multiple "mind maps sheets" on same "mind map" (like sheets from Excel)
4- Agregation of nodes with Summary (ctrl+]) and Boundaries (ctrl+B)

  10. collaboration users have own identity by color of text to see who suggest what or makes changes.

When making changes or suggestions on a map it would be nice to know who suggested ideas or change a line so owner can make choice of corrections.

  11. chat window and/or comments in collaboration

Could we have a chat window incorporated into the collaboration sessions along with a way to add comments that stay with the session after it's closed (without adding a node) kind of like Google docs does now? I think this would improve the collaboration capabilities a lot!

  12. Zooming via mouse-wheel (touch-pad scroll)

Keyboard junkies will thank you for Z and Shift+Z, but most natural / popular and fast way of zooming "around maps" is via mouse-wheel.
It might interfere with touch-pad scroll/pan, but if you implement both - there will happy users instead of frustrated ones.

  13. Facilitate use of mindmup for agile story writing

Each box is a story. Each attachment is a summary of conversations and outline of acceptance criteria or list of simple tasks. Option to print off individual box and attachment as a story and conversation. Introduction of box numbering, and improvement of printing to allow better text files to be loaded as data into Excel to allow pivot tables in Excel. These steps could be added as a feature presented as a "Backlog" of stories output.

  14. Lock nodes status

When I use the Progress extension I define some colors to tasks. Then when I go to my taks that are childs of nodes that are ideas, not tasks, the ideas take the colors of the state from the childs and that is not usecefull. Also when you are collaborating with people and you want to let them know that some node should be lock by the moment, somebody can change it if you don't lock it. Could be some other ways that "lock" is a good feature.

  16. Create Systems mapping tool

A big challenge in design is the impact of unintended consequences. Systems mapping with causal feedback loops help you see the impacts of a system in one space. Your tool is very close to this- if you add causal system loops and a few other systems thinking/mapping tools, you would have the best software in the world for this.

  17. Adding attributes to nodes

Why: to enrich the nodes with additional structured data, so the mind map can be used for importing/exporting purposes. Freemind has the same feature where you can switch the visibility of the attributes.

  18. Internationalization of the user interface

As far as I can see, the user interface is only available in English. This is be a big hurdle for those people that don't speak English. The user should be able to choose the interface language and the choice should stick between sessions.

Ideally the language could be specified as part of the access URL, so we can give it away to our users and be sure they will be accessing the application in the right language from the start.

  20. Task management issues: notes, integration with GMail Tasks.

I am a fan of the notes and alerts features, using them for task management.
    1) At this time exporting a Mindmup file to FreeMind results in lost notes. Please fix this.
    2) FreePlane is the "new" FreeMind, with additional features in Time and Tasks management. Tighter integration of Mindmup with FreePlane would be very beneficial.
    3) It would be great if Gmail tasks can be integrated with Mindmup to create an excellent visual task management environment. Thanks!
